Winter time: a season of a fun (and needed) wardrobe change, snow days, hot chocolate, and fireplace cuddles. However, as magical as this time of the year can be, our skin truly despises Jack Frost. (Or you can be a Texas girl like me and hate him at all times of the year.) Winter is hard on the skin because it can seriously dry it out due to indoor heating, hot showers, heavier fabrics, the never-ending coldness & sadness of snow, etc., so we want to share with you some of our favorite products that help keep your skin in tip-top condition. We’re here to help a sista out with all the tips and tricks to keeping your skin looking hydrated and having *the new* Tswift sing the lines “You’re so gorgeous . . .’cause look at your face” as you follow these steps!

Moisturizers: The Cream of the Crop

Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare’s ‘Hyaluronic Moisture Cushion’: This is a godsend y’all. It’s an oil-free mixture that helps firm and smooth your skin as you put it on both morning and night. Not only is it oil-free, but it produces time-released hydration thanks to the hyaluronic acid within this bottle of magic. It’s great for all skin types.

Tata Harper’s Beautifying Face Oil: Wow, is this stuff great. Not only is it extremely hydrating and a lightweight face oil, but it also smells amazing. Plus your skin is glowing, energized and firmer afterwards. Bless.

Sunday Riley’s U.F.O. Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil: This little beauty not only reduces the appearance of blackheads, blemishes, and acne, but of wrinkles as well. It’s a dry oil that is great for all skin types as it practically disappears into the skin, leaving it silky smooth and fabulous.

Crème de Glossier-Moisturizer Rich: The name sounds fancy and French, so naturally, I’m a fan. Their own description uses the word “luxurious face cream” and who the heck doesn’t want that right before they go to bed? It reinforces the skin barrier and locks in all that good moisture to create a smooth, dewy canvas for putting on makeup (or honestly, just skip those steps and show off your beautiful face). It contains shea and murumuru butters that slide all over the face for a hydrating and relaxing experience of sweet dreams and blessed days.

Cleansers: Clean, Clean, Baby

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser: I love how you can get a two for one deal out of this guy. You can use it on normal, dry skin to dissolve makeup and dirt off of your face, or spread it across wet skin to start your day with a good clean. Also, its hidden secret is that it’s is safe to use on your eyes! Translation: you can finally get all of your mascara off without looking like zombie the next morning.

Rodan+Fields Soothe Gentle Cream Wash: Moment of silence for God gracing us with Rodan+Fields presence while we are here on this Earth. I mean, the slogan of this company is “life-changing skincare,” and quite frankly, I believe them because this stuff is pure gold in a bottle. This cleanser comes from the Soothe family of the company, so it’s more for sensitive skin types. It’s the first of four steps in their Soothe package, and it cleans off all of the skin-impurities in the blink of an eye.

Recipe-Blueberry Bounce Gentle Cleanser: For starters, if you haven’t heard about the Glow Recipe, you need to! This company’s inspiration stems from Korean skincare, which if you haven’t noticed, is literally flawless. This bad boy can also be used for just a simple clean that gets rid of makeup in the process or as a mask that turns into a cleanser. In fact, it gets rid of the need for a hydrating toner all together! *also highly recommend if you want to smell amazing every time you wash your face*

Serums: The Biased Truth

TBH, here at Maude we have two great serums that we love; we wouldn’t recommend anything else. We love our products THAT much. Duh. First off is the Vitamin C Serum. Vitamin C is 100% perfect for any season because it helps with anti-aging, along with preventing skin damage. It’s also great for those of us who have many breakouts because this voodoo magic in bottle decreases all these blemishes immediately.

The other is the Collagen Firming Serum. Holy Hannah, are we obsessed. Between the amazing ingredients that help create firm, glowing skin, it also helps fine lines and wrinkles disappear, all while boosting collagen production and promoting cell regeneration. Like, who doesn’t want all of that goodness? This baby is perfect for all ages, and quite frankly, I wish I had this gem a looooong time ago. But hey, it’s never too late to get on the skincare train.

Mists: The Hydration Station

Glossier’s Soothing Face Mist:You guys--this stuff. Just yes. 1 million times yes. Here’s how it works: wash your face, spray on this magic mist, and then use Glossier’s Priming Moisturizer (that we mentioned earlier). This mist has aloe AND ROSES to give you a little boost to your day, and leaves you feeling all sorts of fabulous.

Now that we’ve hopefully converted you to some of our favorite products that help save your skin during the winter months, we also wanted to share some other tips and tricks as well!

  1. Stay Hydrated by Drinking EXTRA Water

-Not only does water help flush out impurities on your face, but it helps

with digestion as well. There is nothing wrong with gaining a little weight,

especially around the holidays (thank you Grandma) but drinking extra water helps the body properly process food. Often our brains misinterpret “thirsty” for “hungry”, so drinking that extra bit of water can do a lot of good.

-Extra water=extra energy. Without lots of water in your system, the body starts to slow down and use up whatever energy is left in the tank. Plus with these cloudy, dreary days, we need all the energy we can get. So drink up!

     2. Eat more fruits!

-My biggest struggle is eating fruits and veggies during the winter time because I

feel like there is nothing available! However pomegranate seeds & the holy citrus of oranges, grapefruit, and lemons should be incorporated into your meals as much as possible! The Vitamin C in these gems pumps up collagen in your skin to heal skin from the inside out.

      3. Take Your Vitamins!

-Now don’t roll your eyes at me, especially if I sound like your mother...or my

mother...but vitamins are life savers--especially when it seems like sunny days are never returning. Vitamins can fix all of your winter skin woes in a heartbeat.

Vitamin A: Not only is it a cancer-fighter, but it’s also an acne-fighter that can be found in many vegetables! (PS: do not take when pregnant.)

Vitamin C: As mentioned in the fruit section^^ Vitamin C is a blessing we all should take full advantage of more often. Vitamin C comes in chewy tablets, juice, and different supplements. If you want the inner glow, take the VC.

Zinc: I’ll be honest when I say that I have been visited by the acne monster most of life, but my super power for fighting this demon off is Zinc! It kills off bacteria that brings up the acne, and also drys acne from the inside out. So take that acne gremlins! POW!

Collagen Supplements: Collagen helps a homegirl out by being a lifesaver for under-eye puffiness and dark circles. This vitamin is what keeps skin looking young. As we get older, we slowly lose collagen and then the wrinkles become to form. AKA: go to the store asap to treat your skin with the kindness it deserves.
